Since 1921, the Ventura County Council, Boy Scouts of America has been focused on providing high quality Cub and Boy Scout programs to boys ages 5 to 18, along with Venturing and Exploring units to young men and women from ages 14 to 21. As part of that effort, the Council also provides a Scoutreach program to low income, boys and girls in Oxnard and surrounding communities.
2016 Highlights of the Ventura County Council include:
Over 8,000 youth and their families were served with quality character based programs.
Over 100,000 hours of community service were rendered by our youth.
Program delivery was facilitated through nearly 130 community based partnerships.
169 Eagle Scouts were awarded.
Two Camping facilities, a staffed Council Service Center and a full service Scout Store were maintained in service to our youth and their families.
At-Risk Youth Are Being Reached! Our “Scoutreach” program is reaching 500+ boys and girls in the Oxnard communities by developing social skills, building character, and improving life experiences.
Scouts collected over 125,000 food items last winter for Scouting for Food to help fill the community food banks!
“Scouting prepares our youth with unparalleled leadership traits, life skills, respect for our environment and to be participating citizens in their community. Many of my deputies were involved in scouting and have continued on to be adult leaders with our local Packs and Troops. The characteristics and values instilled through the Boy Scout program set our youth on a path to be productive and contributing members of our communities”.
